手づくねの抹茶椀、楽焼
楽焼は、一般的にろくろを使用せずに一椀づつ手で形作る素朴な風情が魅力。千利休の好みによって生み出されたこのスタイルの茶碗は、茶の湯ではもっとも重要なものとされている。「亀毛」（きもう）はこの楽焼を専門とする「吉村楽入」が、楽焼の始祖である樂家五代・宗入の名作から発想した黒楽茶碗。六角形の口はめでたい動物・亀の形。

Hand-twisted tea ceremony bowl (Raku ware).
The Raku ware features a rustic taste enhanced by the unique shape formed by hand without using a potter’s wheel. Teacups of this style, favored by tea master Sen no Rikyu, are considered the most important article in the tea ceremony. Kimo is a black Raku teacup based on a masterpiece of Sonyu, the fifth heir of the Raku family. The hexagonal mouth is shaped like a turtle, a lucky animal.

楽焼の茶碗は、伝統的な手法に従ってロクロを使わず手づくねで造られ、高台を削りだして形を整え、ひと椀づつ低温焼成される。
The Raku teacups are made through a traditional hand-twisting technique without using a potter’s wheel. An elevated table is trimmed to form the teacups, each of which is then fired at a low temperature.
