繊細なる日本の音色、尺八
竹筒の笛・尺八は、かつて僧がお経のかわりとして吹いていた。それが楽器として演奏されるようになったのは江戸時代末期。「北原精華堂」は日本最古の尺八メーカー。日本原産の真竹を切り4年間乾かし、竹の内部を削り、石膏、との粉、漆を水に混ぜたものを塗りつける。このとき空気の通りを微妙に調整して音色を整えるのが職人の技。
Shakuhachi – A delicate Japanese tone controlled by
lacquer applied to the interior surface of bamboo.
The Shakuhachi – a bamboo flute – was once played by Buddhist monks as an alternative to chanting sutras. It was in the late Edo period when people started using it as a musical instrument. Kitahara Seikado is the oldest Shakuhachi maker in Japan. Timber bamboo grown in Japan is cut and dried over a period of four years. The inner surface is then scraped off and replaced with a mixture of gypsum, fine polishing powder, lacquer and water. It is the craftsmen’s skill that fine-tunes the tone by adjusting the airflow during this process.

the mouthpiece angle is determined by the size and shape of the player’s jaw.
Ideally, purchasers should visit the shop for fitting.
