古くから茶道具として珍重された交趾焼
鮮やかな色彩の風神雷神像
緑、黄色、紫など、色鮮やかな線文様の焼き物が17世紀ごろ日本に渡来し、南方への憧れをこめて交趾（ベトナム）と呼ばれ、特に茶の湯の世界で珍重された。「中村翠嵐」では、伝統に新しい技法を重ね、茶陶から風神雷神像のようなオブジェまでさまざまな交趾焼を制作。風神雷神像の装束には工房の特徴である深い交趾焼の色を用いている。
Kochi ceramics have been valued as tea ceremony instruments for centuries.
“Wind God and Thunder God” in vibrant colours.
Patterns drawn in vibrant greens, yellows and purples came to Japan sometime during the 17th century. These designs were called Kochi (Vietnam) denoting the aspirations held by the Japanese towards the South; and were particularly valued in the world of the tea ceremony. At the Suiran studio, we combine traditional techniques with modern ones to produce tea-ceremony implements and other wind and thunder god objects of various types in the Kochi style. The attire of the gods is depicted in a very deep kochiyaki colour, particular to this studio.

The work passes through clear stages: Icchin, painting, and the sculpting of the piece itself. The putting together of these different techniques calls for great ability on the part of the potter.
